Obituary for Billy Cater

Billy Cater
Billy was born in Panama City, Florida. He joined the Air Force and was stationed in England. When he left the service he worked for PSA in Baltimore, Md and California. He was recognized in this Direct Mail Distribution Industry for his many talents and leadership. He later moved back to Florida. In Jacksonville he joined and retired from JEA as a Civil Engineer.

Billy had three loves in his life.... His family, his music and his dog and shadow, Penny. His father, William D Cater, his sisters Susan and Sharon are deceased.

Billy is survived by his Mother Frances and her son Tom, and his brother in law, Jack. Billy married Bertha and they had a daughter, Rebecca. His Mother Frances and his daughter, Rebecca, were the loves of his life.

Billy had a dog and best friend, Penny. Penny went where Billy went ALWAYS.

Billy will always be in the music you hear. The strums of a guitar or the train whistle coming down the track. He was loved his music, whether it be a guitar or a banjo... and he was known to play a harmonica. Johnny Cash or Bill Monroe were among his favorites.

Billy's vocal chords were taken from him by a stroke in 2007. His words were silenced and his spirit lived on. If you have a memory of Billy, then you have truly been blessed. We feel certain it will, for sure, include a smile and a twinkle in his eyes. He will be truly missed by many as Billy did not meet a stranger. Play on Billy and we will listen for the music.

Life Story for Billy Cater

At His Core

He was a self made man, of this I am sure
Integrity, Respect and love of his family was at his core
His curiosity for knowledge took him quite far
He had a love of music and could fire up a guitar
Two sisters and his mother filled his life
And yes one day Billy took a wife
From that union a daughter was born
Family to Billy was important, without a doubt
His love for his mother, knew no bounds
He loved her deep and he loved her strong
Fran was his anchor always and could do no wrong
We are brought together to say our goodbye's
For me that is just a bold face lie
Billy lives on in each person he met
His body has left and that we regret
However, when you hear music playing...Billy is there
When you see a new father teaching his daughter he is there
When you see a son love his Mother he is there too
He is in the sky above and the ocean so blue
He is in every “gentle man” who is holding a door
He is in every heartfelt hug and kiss forever more
He is in every debate and challenging conversation you have
He is in every well dressed, clean shaven young lad
He created memories so rich along the way
They will be with us always ...every day
So to be like Billy Cater.... How great can that be!
He created and maintained always, a deep abiding love for his family.

Much love always and say Hi to Penny

your family.
