Thomas W Holt

April 26, 1927 - January 12, 2018

U.S. Veteran

Thomas W. “Bill” Holt, 90 went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2018. Bill was born in Wetumpka, Alabama, the youngest of three children and the only boy. Bill went to Holtville High where he played baseball, football and basketball. He enlisted in the Navy in 1945 where he served for 24 years, retiring in 1969. After the Navy, Bill worked for the Department of Motor Vehicles in New Orleans and Jacksonville, and also for the Duval County School Board where he retired in 1992. Bill and his lovely wife, Jane, lived throughout the U.S. while he served, finally settling in Jacksonville where they raised their daughter, Cathy. In 1992 Bill began another chapter in life when he took on another role, taking care of his grandson Brandon, during the day, until he was four years old. Brandon and “Buddy” could be found at the golf course or just driving around town. Bill was an avid fan of two things, Brandon and Auburn football and he loved to talk about both. Most days you could find Bill at Blue Cypress Golf Club, his second home, where he enjoyed golf (most of the time) and great friends (all of the time). Bill never met a stranger and enjoyed sharing a story with anyone who would listen. And he had some great stories.

Preceding him in death was his wife of 52 years, Rheta “Jane” Holt, who passed away on May 31, 2008; sisters Mildred Holt and Annie Esco; brothers-in-law Lawrence Esco, Eldridge, Wayne  and Ralph Thompson, sisters-in-law Judy, Louise and Johnnie Thompson; nephew Jim Thompson and niece Ann Thompson. He is survived by his daughter Cathy Holt Hyder (Kurt), grandson Brandon Hyder; brother-in-law Lelon Thompson and sister-in-law Mona Thompson.
